A - Z Blogging Challenge T is for Toens.

Toens

Don't you love the sound of this name? To me it sounds strong.

So who is/was Toens and does he hang on my tree?  Toens was my great, great-grandfather, so yes he hangs on my tree.

As for the meaning, origin etc. I can find no information, with Google turning it into Towns!

I can assume that it is German, given that he was born, married and died in Germany but that is all I know.

Such an interesting name, but...

  1. Well I've never met a Toens - a new name to me. I popped over to Ancestry and found quite a few Germans with the given name Toens.

  2. As it was a German name, the "e" is often used in English to replace the umlaut, so likely to be a shortened form of Antonius or Anthony - see https://www.houseofnames.com/tons-family-crest
