What I've been researching.

Having been to the NSW & ACT Family History Conference, several weeks ago, I've been researching names, people and ships. The name, CHASMAR. I've found that is isn't a Hugenot surname, nor is it a Norman one. It is an Early English one, so that is good to know. The people, John Eyde MANNING. Charlotte Chasmar was assigned to his house, Ultimo House, in 1839 on her arrival from Kent. Well by 1841 she had had her first child, with Henry Vaughan, so what happened to her position? From reading through the newspapers, John Eyde Manning became insolvent, not long after she started working for the family. John went back to England in a bit of a disgrace, Charlotte and Henry got together and here I am! The ship, the   Cornwall ,   while I knew the size of the ship, I really wanted to know why 327 people from Kent came out at that time. A search for the ship lead me to a blog on WeAre.xyz and contact with a lady called Heather. She had family come on that ship, too and w...

Life Happens

This time last week we were feeling pretty good about Paul's recovery, from gallbladder surgery, this week he is in hospital having had a Heptic abcess drained. This is the same thing that happened 12 months ago, causing all the same problems, hopefully this time it will be fixed.  As a result of this I've been a bit lax in my blogging, sorry. I have been working on my Abberton One-Name Study and trying to get others to share their information. It can be fun and it can be frustrating, so far it is fun. I'm collecting Australian births, deaths, marriages, trying to match-up families. Once this is done, I'm not sure which way I'll take it. I have three studies going, Abberton, Chasmar and Galbraith. Now I hear you asking, "What is a One-Name Study?"  Well it is basiclly a study of a surname in either a paticular area or world-wide. Two good websites to look at are;  Guild of One-Name Studies  https://one-name.org/ and The Surname Society   https...

I'm biting the bullet!

I have made 2017 the year that I publish some of my family research. I'm starting with Henry Vaughan and Charlotte Chasmar. I've spent the past few days going over my research, adding to what I know, fact checking and procrastinating. I'm writing it out in longhand then for the revision I'll type it on the computer, correct spelling and grammar.  I have no idea how long this will take and I'm going to blog my progress. My note book, pencils, papers and reference books. Folder with the documents in it and the research file.   Well I'd better stop blogging and write some more.   Watch this space, for updates! Bye for now, Lilian.

Catch up

Hi, It has been awhile since I posted but lots have happened in my life. A death, a family move interstate and a wedding. I am now studying genealogy and loving it. Still researching the family tree and have success on some branches and brick wall on others, don't we all! Looking for anyone researching Abberton, Galbraith, Chasmar, Magill, Torpy/Torphy and Sigrist, to name a few. Bye Lilian

Been Busy

Well Christmas is over and I can get down to some very serious family tree research. Yesterday I was able to fill in a Pedigree chart for my youngest child and found several gaps, to explore. Some of the surnames that I am researching are Sigrist, Hudson, Chasmar, Vaughan, Jasper & Abberton. Please contact me if you have any of these names. Who knows we could both find 'missing links'!
