Study.

Since 7 January 2013,  I have been slowly working my way through the 40 subjects for my Australian Certificate in Genealogical Studies. Yesterday I FINISHED!  To say I'm thrilled is an understatement. I still have to wait for the official word that I have passed my last two subjects and have met all the requirements, but I feel like celebrating!. If you are thinking about further study have a look at The National Institute for Genealogical Studies. http://www.genealogicalstudies.com/   They have a comprehensive range of courses across a wide range of areas. There are compulsory subjects in every certificate and a good choice of electives. Now I'm finished, I've looked at other subjects that I am interested in, plus maybe another certificate. My options are open and I wont decide, just yet. I have also been studying through UTAS, with their Diploma of Family History, http://www.utas.edu.au/courses/cale/courses/r2h-diploma-of-family-history    They off...

That's a Wrap! 2016 Conference.

This years conference was originally to be hosted by Camden Area family History Society, the asked the Picton & District Historical & Family History Society to join with them. It was fantastic. Held in the Camden Civic Center, the his venue was superb. A auditorium, for the trade tables, main conference and dinner, was great. The smaller Ferguson Room was used for the Friday talks, Meet & Greet, morning and afternoon teas, as well as lunch. This was one of the better catered for, I've been to. The organising team did a wonderful job and everything from the name tags, conference booklets and satchels, to the timing of the talks,  done very well. Orange 2017. has a lot to love up-to. I, myself had a great time, catching up with old friends and making new ones. I have come away with tips on how to find an arrival, how I can get a death certificate changed, to how I should really use the Dictionary of Sydney. I also met several other people, doing the UTAS c...

Study

I have taken on a Spring School course from the University of Tasmania (UTAS), Writing Family History. While I missed starting, last week due to the work in my study, I have caught up and am looking forward to this weeks lectures. Done in two, three week blocks means we have a break over the Christmas period. From the course outline, the topics are set out using the formula of how, who, where, what and when. These are then broken down into a series of between three or fours lectures, per week, that we can both listen to or download. This week is the How part and deals with developing our writing skills, (something I need help with), and I'm considering the topic, Conversations with the Past. It should be very interesting as I have several ancestors I'd love to have a conversation with. Parallel to this lot of study is my ongoing genealogy course, with a new subject about to start. Well it keeps me busy! I don't think the study will be fully 'done' Christmas bu...
