ANDREW ALEXANDER HUNTER MAGILL   Andrew, known as Sandy, was born on Friday 17 April 1885 [1] , at Swamp Oak Creek, to Samuel Hunter Magill and Margaret Towers. Sandy was their sixth child and third son. His baptism took place on Wednesday 13 May 1885 [2]  at St Nicholas Church, Tamworth. His sponsors were Conor and Maria Martin, how they are related, I’ve yet to determine. The family lived at Kootingal, 18kms from Tamworth on a property call  Pine Ridge . It is here that Sandy grew up, eventually taking over the farm from his father. On Tuesday 29 October 1907 [3] , he married Edith Pearl Amelia Millar, at The Presbytery, Roman Catholic Church, Tamworth. Edith was the daughter of Ralph Millar and Amelia Jane Hughes. They raised a family of 10 children, Margaret 1908, Andrew 1909, Ralph 1911, Edith 1914, Samuel 1916, Patrick 1918, Edna, Nora, John, Mervyn. Andrew and Edith on their wedding day. Andrew died on Saturday 3 February 1945 [4] , at the B...

Tombstone Tuesday.

I don't know about you, but I find cemeteries fascinating! Weird, I know but it isn't just from being a genealogist. Here is a selection of tombstones, of family members. Margaret (nee Towers)  and Samuel Magill. Margaret was born at Windsor. Samuel was born in Belfast, Ireland. They are in the Kootingal Cemetery, near Tamworth, NSW. Andrew, born 17 April 1885. Son of Margaret and Samuel, he is buried near them in the Kootingal Cemetery. Edith (nee Millar), born 30 July 1955. She died, visiting family in Adelaide and was brought back to Sydney at buried in the cemetery at Waverly. She faces the ocean and the view is beautiful. Where are your ancestors buried? Anywhere interesting? Bye for now, Lilian.

Research on the Magill side of the family.

Well I suppose I'd better 'do' my husbands side, for awhile after all the information I've been finding on my side. The Magills. Samuel Hunter Magill  and Margaret Towers of Pine Ridge, Kootingal, NSW. Samuel and Margaret had nine children 1) John c1869 - 1949 2) Mary c1871/72 - 1930 3) James c1873 - 1939 4) Margaret 1879 - 5) Catherine 1882 - 1963 6) Andrew 1885 - 1945 (ours) 7) William 1888 - 1916 8) Lorna 1891 - 1917 9) Nora 1897 - 1898. As you can see I have all but one year of death and yesterday tried to fill that in. No luck. Okay, I'll look for her marriage and became more confused. There are two marriages of a Margaret A Magill, so which one is mine? Or maybe neither? Marriage 1 Margaret A Magill to Samuel N BRYANT, 1900 registered at Moree. There was a birth and death of a child, Charles in 1902.  There are two deaths registered of Samuel Bryant. One in 1904, Raymond Terrace  and the other in 1909, Charlestown.  Could t...

Missing certificate

I've misplaced a death certificate and am annoyed! I know that I have it as I enter certificates onto a spread sheet, number it and then file it in a folder and its not there. Margaret Towers married Samuel Magill in 1868. I have the marriage, his death, kids info but can't find her death certificate. I suppose that it gives me an incentive to go through my filing cabinet and do some culling, the problem there is that most of my laundry in in my study. Tradie comes next week for that. Well back I go to look for it.
