Thursday was my usual monthly meeting of the SAG Writers Group and I was presenting a talk on Appendixes. We have been doing several 'Back-to-Basics' talks over the past year. This is to refresh the older members and to let the newer members, hear them. As I was going over my presentation, I realised that it was April 2014 when   I had last given this talk. We usually meet for lunch at Café Mio but this months starting time was 1.30pm, as the was another talk before ours. It was a short talk and I was able to do a question and answer session, which has lead to me  being asked to do a repeat of my Copyright, Ethics and Citing your Sources talk, next year. Today was day one of the Unlock The Past, sponsored genealogy feast. Part of the audience. Today was German research, with Dirk Weissleder presenting four informative talks. I have German ancestors and the information Dirk gave, will help me go further with my research. Giving us the German words for the different records will be very useful. Dirk is the President of the Federation of Family Associations. He is also a genealogy consultant and national chairman of the Deutsche Arbeisgemeinschaft genealogischer Verbande  www.dagv.org   This society is the umbrella organisation for genealogy and heraldry for Germany. Kerry Farmer gave a great talk on DNA. I have heard Kerry give similar talks but today it started to sink in. Hi, You would think that having been to RootsTech, I'd want a break from genealogy seminars, never! Unlock the Past run genealogy cruises and when they are in port, they run seminars. Yesterday was Sydney's turn, with Judy G Russell and Paul Blake presenting some of their talks. Judy is wonderful, with her knowledge of both the law and DNA. I've 'done' my DNA but haven't done anything, much, with my results. Judy explained the ethics of genealogical DNA, privacy issues, permission to share DNA information, both us and the company we may use. Read the terms and conditions, they make very interesting reading.  Also a discussion on what happens to the DNA test, once we die. Leave very clear guidelines as the various companies have different storage lengths. Judy also mentioned family secrets and the persons right to privacy, even if the information is in the public domain. Apply the Golden Rule, threat others the way you would like to be treated. Easter Blessings to you. Apart from a family lunch on Sunday, I have nothing else planned and Paul has a flex day on Tuesday!  Looking at my sewing table, it really needs a good tidy-up! The ironing has taken over and I'm going to write up some reviews on the Unlock The Past books, hence the pile. The reviews will be on my website. There is also some mending under that and a quilt to quilt. I have a new subject starting on 6th April, so I'd better read the notes. I've also got an ongoing subject to work on. This pile of newspaper pages relates to the Bankstown Family History Groups press, so I want to put them into a folder. What are your long weekend plans? God Bless, Lilian
