PROVENANCE: n. place of origin, source.* Back in February my research was centred around the SIGRIST family and trying to locate any family in Germany.  This wasn't successful, for several reasons, but DNA has given us some leads. When I was doing this research I had photocopies of what appeared to be pages from a note book, but while I thought is was Fred Sigrist's, I couldn't prove it. Well... yesterday I was going through family stuff, in a drawer and found a small, green booklet. On opening it there were lists of names, a map of a garden, AND the information that I have on the photo copies. I can now prove the provenance of the copies I have, thrilled. Yes, the booklet was Fred's and in it is a sweet notation, " started keeping company with Elsie 17.3.09"   Fred and Elsie married 5 April 1919. The cover. The sweet notation. One of the pages. Mary Ann was born 19 December 1856 in Chartteris, Cambridgeshire, England and baptised in the same parish on 24 August 1862. [1] Why this delay, is not known. How she met Christopher Frederick Sigrist, isn’t known but on 6 May 1883, at St Gabriel’s, Bromley, Middlesex, England [2], they married.  Mary Ann is 25 and Christopher is 24 and is known as Frederick. A daughter, Janetta is born on 10 May 1885, in Bromley [3] . In July 1886 [4] , on board the S.S. Port Victor, Mary Ann and Janetta arrive in Sydney, to join Frederick. The family lived at Woollahra, where Fred had his bakery. Mary Ann would have six more children, Emilia, born 1887, died 1888, Louisa, born 1889, died 1889, Frederick, born 1890, died 1930, Lilly, born 1893, died 1937, Charles, born 1897, died 1897 and William, born 1899, died 1900. As I promised in the May Ancestor post on,  Elsie Ironside.  Here is the story of her husband. Frederick Charles Sigrist was born 18 September 1890 [1] , to Frederick Sigrist and Mary Ann Hudson. He was their fourth child. The family had a bakery in Denison Street, Woollahra.                                                                                                                     Frederick Charles Sigrist.   I am very lucky to have two Family Bibles in my possession.  The GALBRAITH family one is falling apart but it contains a wealth of information on the 10 children born to my grandparents, right down to the time of birth. The SIGRIST family one is in German and has the births and deaths recorded in it. This one has been repaired and I think lost some of its character.

Elsie Minnie Ironside was born 21 May 1892, to Maude Kidney and her husband Edgar Bird Ironside. [1] Elsie was my husband’s grandmother. How she met her future husband isn’t known but as they both lived and grew up in the Paddington area, I can only presume that they either met at the local church or the Paddington Town Hall. (Things we should have asked Mum about.) The Bridal Party. Alf Tobin (friend), Violet Ironside (sister), Frederick Sigrist, Elsie Ironside, Lilly Sigrist (sister), Norman Ironside (brother). Elsie and Frederick Charles Sigrist married in 5 April 1919 at St Michael’s Church of England, Flinders Street, Surry Hills. [2] Elsie’s occupation was given as Saleswoman and Frederick’s a Telephone Mechanic. It was this occupation that would kill him, but you will have to wait until September to find out why. Well I made it, my 400th post on my Blogiversary. Starting this blog on 21 November 2010 I wrote; I'm new to this but want to share family information and meet other family members.  Looking for the names of Abberton, Magill, Sigrist.  These are just some of the names I'm researching. Will post more once I'm settled in. Well I don't think I'm 'new' to this any more! I'm still searching for the same surnames, with a few more thrown into the mix. I have caught up with some cousins, found new ones but the biggest thing has been meeting fellow Bloggers. Jill Ball, has helped me re-design the blog and given encouragement. Thank you so much. As I had mentioned Elsie Minnie Sigrist in the State Archives post, I thought I'd tell you about her. Elsie Minnie Ironside. Born 21 May 1892. Married 5 April 1919. Died 25 April 1934.  Not much bit there is so much more. Elsie was the daughter of Edgar Bird Ironside and Maude Kidney. She had a sister Violet and a brother Norman. In April 1919 she married Frederick Charles Sigrist.   They were blessed with two daughters, Edna born 1920 and Joan born 1929. Sadly Frederick died when Joan was just six months old.   I think this photo was taken, while they were dating.   Bye for now, Lilian.

Several of my friends do this, search TROVE for something interesting to post about on a Tuesday. Today I decided to search for SIGRIST, my late mother-in-law's maiden name. The amount of results I turned up as fantastic but not all related to her line. Two that I did find have really sparked a searching frenzy. Fri 4 Apr 1930 - The Sun (Sydney, NSW: 1910 -1954) Page 2 - HERE AND THERE. Telephone Mechanic's Death. Frederick Charles Sigrist, telephone mechanic of Fairmount Street, Lakemba died at his home, yesterday. He had been ill for over six months. He had 24 years' service. This was Edna's Dad, he was only 39 when he died leaving his widow with two small children. The baby was just six months old. It is this next one that has really got me going. LOCKE - SIGRIST The Engagement is announced of Edna (W.A.A.A.F) elder daughter of the late Mr and Mrs F Sigrist of Lakemba and Bondi to Sgt John Locke (A.I.F) eldest son of Mr and Mrs C.J. More of my collection of family tombstones. My husband's Great-grandparents. Frederick  Christopher Sigrist, born 18 September 1858 in Germany, died 29 June 1919. Mary Ann (nee Hudson) Sigrist, born circa 1857 in England, died 14 April 1934. They are buried at Rookwood, NSW. Ralph Millar, born circa 1842, (possibly England), died 18 August 1911 and is buried in the Tamworth Presbyterian Cemetery. Ralph was a beekeeper and the father of Edith Magill.  My Great-grandfather, Thomas Abberton, born circa 1830, in Galway, Ireland, died 22 July 1901. He is buried in the Kenmore Cemetery, Goulburn. Note the large empty space at the bottom of the stone. His wife, Mary (nee Torpy) is said to be buried with him. She was also born in Galway, Ireland in 1834 and died in Sydney, NSW in 1914. This cutie is Frederick Charles Sigrist, the groom in Wedding Wednesday. He was born 18 September 1890 and died 3 April 1930. Edna May Sigrist, taken at Shelly Beach 2 November 1922. The comment on the back read, "rather dull could not get her out of the water." Born 18 May 1920, died 2 May 2006. This water baby is the beautiful bride, in the second photo. Lilian Evelyn Gabraith, born 22 October 1911, died 7 June 2006. This photo was taken when she was around 12 months old.  My Mum, the bride in the last wedding photo. My darling husband, Paul at around 18 weeks old. He still has that beautiful smile. Me, Lilian, at about 6 months. Bye for now, Lilian.

Eveline Maude Jasper married Arthur Alfred Galbraith on 30 December 1908. My mum told me that this photo was taken 3 days after the wedding and that the bouquet wasn't the one she used, as the photo was taken in the photographers studio.  Lilian Evelyn Galbraith married Matthew Henry Abberton on 19 February 1954. What is the most exciting/precious item you have from an ancestor? I have two Family Bibles, one from my husband's (Sigrist)  side that is in German and the other is from my mother's (Galbraith) side. Both have the records of the children written in them. My Galbraith one even has the day and time as well. The Sigrist one has the only record of a birth, that isn't registered.

Hi, It has been awhile since I posted but lots have happened in my life. A death, a family move interstate and a wedding. I am now studying genealogy and loving it. Still researching the family tree and have success on some branches and brick wall on others, don't we all! Looking for anyone researching Abberton, Galbraith, Chasmar, Magill, Torpy/Torphy and Sigrist, to name a few. Bye Lilian

Well Christmas is over and I can get down to some very serious family tree research. Yesterday I was able to fill in a Pedigree chart for my youngest child and found several gaps, to explore. Some of the surnames that I am researching are Sigrist, Hudson, Chasmar, Vaughan, Jasper & Abberton. Please contact me if you have any of these names. Who knows we could both find 'missing links'!

I've been working on my husbands side of the family, mainly his mum's. The Sigrist family are interesting as Christoper Sigrist went to London, married Mary Ann Hudson, had several children and them they all came to Australia, at different times. I'm have a great time tracing them.
