It's Harder Than You Think!

Write a book, it will be easy, just write what you know, won't take you long! Yeah, Right!!!! While I know I'm making progress, it is the fact checking, making sure that dates, places and names are correct. Writing and asking about xyz, permission to use abc and drawing up family trees, just so you know that the right kids are with the right parents, is taking up time! I'm trying to hand write at least one person a day. I then do the checking and then try and get it onto the computer. I'm not being precious about spelling and grammar, until I've done all the writing, then I correct what needs to be corrected. And I check my facts again! I'm also in a bit of a quandary, how many generations do I write about? Here are some statistics to make you see the problem. (no names)   A & B marry and have 10 children, seven grow up and marry. Of the living; child 1 - 13 children, all live, all marry all have children. child 2 - 7 children, 4 live, marry and ...

Shopping in Picton.

Image
Earlier in 2016 Picton suffered floods and a large number of businesses where inundated. The King George Pub, where I have enjoyed lunch, was still closed today, as were several other places. One business, that suffered was a toy shop, The Kids Cottage, Shop 11/150 Argyle Street Picton, 2571.  www.thekidscottage.com.au     This place is amazing and today myself, my two daughters and my grandson payed it a visit. James' eyes lit up, when we entered as there was so much to see and for a three year old James had his birthday voucher to spend and with his Aunts help he found this game. It is similar to UNO but if you happen to press the fart button, one to many times, it makes fart noises. Hilarious. He couldn't stop laughing. He was able play the game and was soon understanding the various cards. While they were bust shopping, I went to a quilt shop. Picton Patchwork is near Maccas but if you were to blink, you would miss the 'Golden Arch', as it is s...

Happy New Year

A BBQ with friends saw us end 2015 on a high note. It was a good year with Paul's retirement, a new darling grandchild and plenty of travel. Genealogy wise I've had some interesting finds, that I will try and confirm, next month at RootsTech. We had a very blessed year. It is still early, only just past 7.00am as I write this, the street is quiet and I'm relaxing. Today I start two new adventures, the first is a Genealogy-Do-Over and the second is a 365 Day quilt block challenge. The Genealogy-Do-Over should be very interesting, as we are encouraged to take a fresh look at what we have done and re-do it. This months topics are Setting previous research aside and Preparing to research. Should be fun, watch this space! The 365 Quilt challenge will be fun as I haven't really undertaken such a project, for years. It is something along the lines of a Mystery Quilt, but we have seen the finished quilt. Our challenge is to make a block a day, for the year. Again I'll...

Do-Over is happening NOW!

The painter has been, to give a quote, ordered the carpet, it is going to happen before Christmas! Today I moved two bookcases into the third bedroom, (thankful there is no bed in there) and the filing cabinet into my husbands study. I have managed to put all my research into the second filing cabinet, on the landing, nice and close.  I've taken books of the shelves and all the stuff of the notice boards. Just waiting on a date for the painting to start. I've also been sewing the new quilt and doing research, so life is still going on. I gave myself a genealogy test, today. I filled in all my direct ancestors, without looking at the family tree program. I was able to do everyone as far back as my Great-grandparents and then only eight of my Great-great-grandparents. Not to bad, me thinks. Bye for now, Lilian.
