A look back on 2024

What did 2024 bring for me? The opportunity to travel. Good health for Hubby and I. To name two things. BUT what did I do in 2024?  Started a Photo a Day on Facebook for the whole year. I've enjoyed it but don't think I'd do it again, yet.  Set myself a Goodreads target of 100 books and I'm now up to 103, so target met.  Undertook a writing course to start and write my novel, it's a work-in-progress but I'm enjoying it. Kept a journal for the whole year. This year I've added things to the journal to remind me of what I did. Things like leaves that Miss 9 gave me, postcards etc. I lovely reminder of 2024. Went on a 28 day Road Trip through country New South Wales, with Hubby. Explored this wonderful state, caught-up with family and friends along the way. A quick trip to Christchurch, New Zealand for a weekend conference. Coffee 'n' Chat most Monday's with a group of friends. I started this during Covid in 2020 and it's still going and we try ...

A - Z Blogging Challenge Reflections

Image
This is my third  A - Z Blogging Challenge and the one I felt the most relaxed doing. I had all my posts done before April 1 and I let it look after itself, because I knew that I would most likely be away for most of April. My theme was Names Hanging on my Tree and I found it fun/frustrating to find their meanings or 'famous' people with that name. I enjoyed reading the comments and appreciated them but because I was away, I couldn't make comments on others. Those, who I know and posted on Facebook, I was able to read and comment on, others I read only. I had problems with getting onto the Master List. Did it once and then when I went to check, found I wasn't on it, tried to do it again and kept getting notices that it was a 'bad' site. I did a Facebook post to the A -Z Blogging page and no one replied, so I still don't know if I made the Master List. I loved the badges and give a big 'thank you' to the person who designs them and does the html. Muc...

Accentuate the Positive

This came from Jill Ball.  The answers are mine. Remember to Accentuate the Positive   1.  An elusive ancestor I found was;  none this year but added details to most branches and enjoyed finding out the information. 2.  A precious family photo I found was; none but I did scan several, late last year, 2015, at a family get together and talked to the Aunts about them. 3.  An ancestor's grave I found was; Henry and Charlotte Vaughan's, at Camperdown Cemetery. The stone is no longer standing but I found them! 4.  An important vital record I found was; probate for my husband's maternal Grandmother. Made very interesting reading. 5.  A newly found family member shared; a draft of their family history. Looks good but no sources cited. :( 6.  A geneasurprise I received was; winning a 2017 pass to RootsTech! 7.   My 2016 blog post that I was particularly proud of was; can I say all? I enjoyed sharing two branches of the fam...

A bit of a rant and your thoughts, please.

I'm not one for passing on the old chain letters, that we would sometimes get. (Remember those?)  I also don't usually copy and paste things from Facebook, (that say to pass it on) but on Friday I was having a bit of fun, with a friend and did just that. You had to work out a message and then follow the instructions. Now I'm being 'blamed' because a 'friend' also followed the instructions, struth!  I have no doubt that most of my friends would have worked out the message and gone, 'so that is what it means' and then left it, fine. What are your thoughts on the 'chain letter' post that come up on Facebook? Do you ignore, like I usually do or pass it on? Bye for now, Lilian.

Tips for Writing Your Story

http://www.angielucas.com/yeahwrite/2015/06/5-writing-tips-interesting-personal-stories.html I found this link on the FamilySearch Facebook page and thought that it was interesting. While the tips relate to scrapbooking, they are useful for story writing too.   I know I need to really get into writing up what I know about various family members but I keep doing other things instead. Bye for now, Lilian.
