This name is the feminine form of Julius, a Latin name. The name was first used in the 16th century and was most popular in the 1960's. In Shakespeare's Two Gentlemen of Verona, the is a lady of Verona, Julia but the Italian form, Giulia is used. (something for a trivia night)
