Accentuate the Positive, 2024 Geneameme
Jill Ball has challenged us to Accentuate the Positive, for 2024. This theme has been going since 2012 and it is really good to look back on what you have achieved in the past year.
1. Google provided an answer to not genealogy, but
Google gave us ideas of places to see on our 2024 road trip through country
NSW. Yes, cemeteries were involved.
2. I was the recipient of genearosity from Jennie F.
3. This headstone gave me some extra information we knew that an Uncle
and Cousin were buried in Armidale Cemetery but it took a photo, taken by a
friend to show that Aunty was also in
the grave.
4. An useful record I discovered was Rate books on the City of Sydney
Archives site. A wonderful description of the house my mother was born in.
5. A newly found family member who shared, not newly found but she lives
in Northern NSW and she sent me a photo of her Mum, my half-sister.
6. A geneasurprise I received was a trip to Christchurch, NZ for a
weekend genealogy get together.
7. My 2024 post that I was particularly proud of was an A-Z Booklist
with a Genealogy Theme,
A-Z
8. DNA helped me to add two new matches to the family tree, on my
Paternal side
9. I was pleased I upgraded my iPad
10. Although Face to Face events have returned Zoom has kept me in touch
with my New Zealand genealogy friends, we chat each week.
11. I dipped my toes into, writing a novel. Slowly getting there.
12. I connected with New Zealand genealogy friends, in person at the
weekend get together.
13. By dipping my toes into AI I was able to get a description of what Goulburn
was like in 1923.
14. I was honoured to be able to host the Society of Australian Genealogists
Writing Group, several times.
15. I found this presentation most useful Andrew Redfern’s Digital Skills for
Family History.
16. A great repository/archive/library I visited was, the State Library of NSW,
for microfilm reels of country newspapers.
17. I got the most value from this book do I have to pick one?? I still reach
for Diahan Southard’s book Your DNA Guide, the book and Alan Bardsley’s First
Name Variants.
18. It was exciting to finally meet, not meet but catch-up with Mia Bennet and
Carole Steers, it had been way to long between hugs.
19. A geneadventure I enjoyed was my quick trip to Christchurch. The talks, the
company and the general chat were wonderful.
20. Another positive is I planned my research month-by-month, this year and
have found that very helpful. Sometimes it became a task, like taking headstone
photos on my trip, other times it was reading war dairies. I found having a
solid plan really worked.
Thanks for your quick response to the challenge. You've had an exciting and successful year.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to look at your blog post about books ! A trip to Christchurch sounds fab. Those rate books are great aren't they. I was interested to look up the house we used to live in in Sydney and see what renovation work had been applied for.
