I have Finis on my tree, being my Dad's cousin but using my book I find it isn't there. Once more I turn to the internet to see what I can find and both have different places of origin.

The name Finis is of French origin.

The meaning of Finis is "finished".

fi-nis, fin-is ] The baby boy name Finis is pronounced as FIHN-ihS- †. Finis' origin is Latin. Finis' meaning is end. ... Finis is rare as a baby name for boys. At the modest peak of its usage in 1901, 0.010% of baby boys were named Finis. 

Interesting, as my Finis was the last of six children maybe my great-aunt had a sense of humour and said, enough! Causing the baby boy to be called Finis.

    I had an ancestor who named her 13th child Relief!

    It would almost seem to be a jinx to name a child Finis in case they died, but I guess they wanted no more children. Finis is what we never achieve as family historians...always more to do.

Hi, As it is very wet both in NSW, Victoria and Queensland, genealogists just might spend their weekend doing research and ordering certificates. Below are the details of transcription agents, very useful people. Here in New South Wales (NSW), we have three transcription agents, Joy Murrin, Marilyn Rowan and Laurie Turtle. These wonderful people and save you money, when you want a certificate, to verify a birth, death or marriage. What, might you ask is a transcript? Part 3 of Our Trip, Alice Springs to Tennant Creek

Our first full day in Alice Springs and we were on the coach by 7.30am, to head to the Alice Springs Desert Park. Our guide, Renata, showed us around and explained the various plants and their uses. Indigenous People, look at the bush and think about how they can use the plants. They use them in one of three ways, for food - supermarket;  tools - hardware and medicine- pharmacy. The park has several aviaries and a nocturnal house and this cute chap, an Australian Bustard was keeping and eye on us. Part of the park. We also saw a Birds of Prey show and using my phone I managed to capture the Wedge tailed Eagle 'catching' food. It is such a magnificent bird. From the park we went to the Royal Flying Doctor Service base and listened to an informative talk on both the history of the service and how it works in the 21st century.  This is such a vital service for those living in outback Australia. Next stop was the Old Telegraph Station , established in 1872.
