Interesting Times Ahead for My Blog

I have some interesting things planned for my blog, in 2018 and I hope you will like them. Several of my friends do a blog where they write about one ancestor a week, 52 ancestors in 52 weeks.  I'm not quite that proficient, so starting in January I'm going to pick one ancestor a month and write up their bio. If I have a photo, that will go in too. March is Congress month and I will be blogging all about that. I am so looking forward to catching-up with my Genie Mates. June will see an A-Z run of blogs, with each one being associated with the letter of the day. I won't do Sundays, so I will have just the right amount of days. I'm working on this one, now and am having so much fun. November is the month of my Blogiversary, and I am working on a surprise for one lucky reader. Have some questions to ask of someone, first. More as November drawers closer. I have a research trip planned, this is for my next book, so that will be blogged about. Plus all my usual stu...

Congress, Quilting and THE BOOK.

Image
Yesterday was a wonderful day. I managed to combine three things I really enjoy, quilting, genealogy and my book. I had spoken to the printer on Tuesday and he was overnight express  posting the proof copy to me, so I was waiting at the post office at 9.00am to collect it. Feeling nervous, it took me several goes to unwrap it from it's procetive wrap. Thick card cover, smooth glossy paper, it is wonderful to hold something I've written. I hope that my cousins like their copies.   Next was registering for Congress, in March 2018. Early bird registrations opened, yesterday and with the eagerness of us genealogists, we crashed the site! I managed to register around 10.00am and have booked the Meet 'n' Great on the Friday and the dinner on the Saturday. I am so looking forward to catching-up with Judy G Russell, Helen Smith, Pauleen Cass, Shauna Hicks, Jill Ball and many, many others, as well as meeting new people, that I don't know if I will have enough time!...

Saturday at RootsTech.

I started Saturday with a quick walk around Temple Square. I wasn't going to take photos as I was here, last year, then I went, 'yeah but there was snow last year and there isn't now! Go take photos!' So I did.           Last year this are was covered in snow and you couldn't tell was under it. Well while the plants are snow free, they have a while to go before Spring. The contrast is beautiful, from last year.   This tree, last year looked like a Christmas tree, full of snow.                                                    It is a beautiful shape.                       ...

Congress Photos.

Still having issues with the laptop but at least I am home and can upload the photos. Congress name tag and my first set of blogger beads. Jill Ball provided all the bloggers, she knew with beads, this way we could identify fellow bloggers. The Congress satchel and what was inside. The program was invaluable as with four concurrent sessions, over four different rooms, it kept you on track. I saw a number of people who had highlighted their choices. I circled mine.                                 Meet and greet was held at the Australian War Memorial. Simpson and his donkey, outside the entrance to the Australian War Memorial. Guests of a different feather.                        ...

Meet and Greet

A large number of genealogists gathered in the Australian War Memorial, for the first function go Congress. Bloggers with beads were numerous and had others asking about our beads. While there was plenty to drink, food was in short supply but what there was, was tastey. Salmon croquettes, small lamb pies, salt and pepper quail and bruschetta were the selection. I had a lovely time catching up with quiet a few friends and meeting new ones. Still unable to add photos, so it is up to Jill, to do that. Bye for now, Lilian

Website launch

Friday at Congress. The details will follow. Excited!. Bye, Lilian

Count down to Congress.

Well I've opened the suitcase and dropped in some mini Mars Bars and a packet of chips. Thinking what else  do I need? Clothes would be good, toothbrush, jacket, undies. Having stayed in the hotel before I might throw in a quilt as it can get cold. Okay, I've thought about it and it will happen but I'm reading a really good book and want to see what happens. Going to read, bye, Lilian

Congress

Well to be precise; The 14th Australasian Congress on Genealogy and Heraldry. I haven't been to congress before, so I don't really know what to expect, except that I will know people attending. Jill Ball of GeniAus will be there, Christine, Sue and several others from the writing group are also going. It is going to be fun. Leaving my husband to batch and look after the dog. Of the four days, I'm doing two and selecting what talks to go to has been difficult. I've tended to go with areas I'm researching and a couple that sounded interesting. Bye for now, Lilian
