Adding Twigs and Leaves, Part 8

 Jane Donald was the tenth child born to George Donald and Jane/Jean Galbraith. Sometimes Jean would be used for her as well.

While Jane appears to have had a normal childhood, it is her adult life that is very interesting.

In 1871, at Balmain in Sydney she married Alexander Donaclift Young and then she vanishes! Searching the Australian records, for that time yielded nothing so I search the New Zealand records and found the birth of their first child, James on the 30 November 1871. And the family vanishes, again! Back to searching the Australian records. In 1873, at Balmain in Sydney their second son, Donald was born,

Yes, they vanish again!

By now I was wondering what was going on as I had found two marriages for Alexander in Victoria, before his marriage to Jane. BUT there didn't seem to be any deaths of divorces. before he married Jane. I did find divorce proceedings, for the second marriage, and it would appear that their 1871 marriage was a bigamist one. I say their 1871 marriage because in 1877, in Queensland they marry again. I did find that he had divorced his second wife Eliza in 1873.

What a run-a round!

Life seems to have settled down after this and they had six more children;

Montrose Markham Stanley Young, 18/10/1878.

Australia Young, 13/08/1880. (female)

Sydney Luna Young, 02/03/1883. (female)

Sicily Alexandra Young, 06/09/1885.

Blanche Gordon Young, 28/08/1888.

Alexander Donaclift Young, 02/11/1890.

Here tragedy strikes with the death of Alexander Snr on 06/11/1890, leaving Jane with the six children.

Jane re-marries on 21/08/1907 to Alfred Keith and they remain married until Alfred dies in 1925.

Jane dies on 01/06/1946, five of her children survive her.

I wonder if she knew about Alexander's previous marriages and what she thought? Interesting.
