Researching Abroad, Day Two

Image
Today it was all about Scottish, Irish and a bit of English records, wonderfully presented by Chris Paton. Chris is a professional genealogists, author, international speaker and a good bloke. Born in Northern Ireland, he now lives in Scotland. Chris, busy writing. Chris and I.                                                     Chris, in presenter mode. Chris presented four fantastic talks, starting with A beginner's guide to British and Irish genealogy. Now I don't class myself as a beginner but it is always great to revisit things and have them refreshed in your memory. You might also learn something new, I know I did. Chris gave an overview of important dates and while I had read about them, hearing them explained...

Australian History & Genealogy Expo.

Some photos of the Expo,so far. I set up the stall for SAG, right at the door, then had a walk around. Here is Mike Mansfield, from the USA, promoting My Heritage.com. It was great to catchup with Kaye and Suzanne, from Teapot Genealogy. Kaye is presenting a talk on The plight of children in the 19th and early 20th century. Paul Parton, from FamilySearch, his here to present several talks about Family Search.  The lovely ladies from Nepan Family History Society, were there, a long way from home. John from VictorianGUM, explained what they do. They are an online group, Linking Family History and Computers. Something I'm going to look into. Genealogy SA and the interest groups were well represented. South Australian Archives were there, Gould Genealogy, Ancestry, FindMyPast and several libraries as well. Coming up to lunchtime, must go. Bye for now, Lilian.

Botany Bay Family History Fair, part 2

Jeni and I have had a wonderful day, meeting interesting people and catching up with those we know. Our table was between Joy and Allan Murrin and Laurie and Lorraine Turtle, both are transcription agents and enjoyed talking to them. Joy watched the video of my TV spot. Gail, from NSW State Records, Cassie Mercer, from Inside History, Teapot Genealogy, Fellowship of First Fleeters and Carol Baxter, author were just some of the people I caught up with. We had some nibbles but people are under the impression that we only deal with families from Bankstown. Might have to write a piece for the Torch newspaper and Australian Family Tree Connections, to see if we can change that. Our handouts and chocolates went down well! Tired but it was a good day. Plans for doing our own next year have been discussed on the drive home. Bye for now, Lilian.
