ANDREW ALEXANDER HUNTER MAGILL   Andrew, known as Sandy, was born on Friday 17 April 1885 [1] , at Swamp Oak Creek, to Samuel Hunter Magill and Margaret Towers. Sandy was their sixth child and third son. His baptism took place on Wednesday 13 May 1885 [2]  at St Nicholas Church, Tamworth. His sponsors were Conor and Maria Martin, how they are related, I’ve yet to determine. The family lived at Kootingal, 18kms from Tamworth on a property call  Pine Ridge . It is here that Sandy grew up, eventually taking over the farm from his father. On Tuesday 29 October 1907 [3] , he married Edith Pearl Amelia Millar, at The Presbytery, Roman Catholic Church, Tamworth. Edith was the daughter of Ralph Millar and Amelia Jane Hughes. They raised a family of 10 children, Margaret 1908, Andrew 1909, Ralph 1911, Edith 1914, Samuel 1916, Patrick 1918, Edna, Nora, John, Mervyn. Andrew and Edith on their wedding day. AMELIA JANE HUGHES. Born: 22 January 1858 [i] at Black Creek, this is near Maitland. Amelia was the third child to John and Jane Hughes. She had a big brother, William. She would be one of 11 children, with three dying before their first birthdays. Her paternal grandparents were, Samuel Hughes and his wife Ann [ii] and on her maternal side, Charles Hughes and Amelia Nichols [iii] . Amelia was the daughter of John Nichols , a First Fleeter, (Scarborough) and Ann Pugh , thus making Amelia Jane a second generation to be born in the colony of New South Wales. On 5 August 1879 Amelia Jane married Ralph Millar at Gowrie, not far from Singleton, she gave her occupation as Gentlewoman. [iv] Six children would bless this union, Marian Jane 1880, Henry James 1882, Florence 1884, Edith Pearl Amelia 1885, Ruby 1889, and Constance 1892. Born on Thursday 22 January 1858 at Black Creek, (Branxton) to Jane and John Hughes, she was named after her maternal grandmother and her mother. She was one of 11 children. Amelia was also the great-granddaughter of John NICHOLS, a First Fleeter. Amelia and Ralph Millar married 5 August 1879 and had six children Marion Jane, 1880-1946 Henry James, 1882-1938 Florence, 1844-1950 Edith Pearl Amelia, 1885-1955 Ruby, 1889-1961 Constance, 1892-1955. Not much is known of Amelia's early life, other than the fact that Jane, her mother could read and write and that the family home was a slab cottage. Amelia died in Branxton on 24 March 1892 from peritonitis, her youngest child just three months old. All of her girls married and had families of their own. Bye for now, Lilian.

 This handsome gentleman is Paul's great-grandfather, Ralph MILLAR and I don't really know that much about him. I suppose what we know is the bare-bones of his life; Born c1842 in Maitland, New South Wales. Married 5 August 1879, Gowrie New South Wales. Died 18 August 1911, Tamworth New South Wales. Bee Keeper. Not much is it? So let me expand this. Ralph married Amelia Jane Hughes at Gowrie. This is not very far from Singleton. Ralph gave scant details for the marriage certificate, just his conjugal status, Bachelor, usual occupation, Settler, usual place of residence, Corinda.  Amelia did likewise, with Spinster for her conjugal status, Gentlewoman for her occupation and Branxton for her usual place of residence.
