Last Trip of 2025, Part 1.

 We have book-ended the year with a trip to Victoria, like we started the year of travel.

This was only a short trip, distance wise 1,946kms and 14 days.

Into Yass for our first night before heading west to Temora. The town of Temora features in the book I'm writing and I needed to check-out some places and things to make sure I had them correct. It is a lovely town and friendly people.

On our way to Temora we had morning tea in Boorowa and saw their painted sheep.





Wagga Wagga was our next stop and we arrived with a heatwave, both days we over 40 degrees. We did things early in the day and then rested and went out again later.

Our first stop was the zoo, it is free. I got to feed and pat an emu and pat several wallabies. The birds were beautiful, with albino peacocks, and Australian native birds.

The next morning we went to the Botanical Gardens. I was disappointed as the blurb, on the website and what was there were two different things. The Shakespeare Garden was nothing like the blurb and I had been looking forward to seeing it. 



The Tree Chapel was lovely.


We walked around Wagga Wagga, as the last time we were there in 2023, it was freezing cold and wet and we didn't see much. It is a lovely town.

Transcription Agents.

Hi, As it is very wet both in NSW, Victoria and Queensland, genealogists just might spend their weekend doing research and ordering certificates. Below are the details of transcription agents, very useful people. Here in New South Wales (NSW), we have three transcription agents, Joy Murrin, Marilyn Rowan and Laurie Turtle. These wonderful people and save you money, when you want a certificate, to verify a birth, death or marriage. What, might you ask is a transcript? A transcript is an actual copy of a document, everything written on it. This is very helpful if you are looking for say a marriage and know they split-up. I have several transcripts of different marriages, where in the comments section is, decree absolute and a date, etc. or who gave permission, if the parties were under age. George Johnston Fairweather

 In July, this year, I had several days away in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, in the town of Bowral and like all good genealogists, I went for a wander in the cemetery and found this grave. Interesting!  I searched  Trove and found five articles about George's death. Ancestry was next and I found his enlistment details. George Johnston Fairweather was born 1838 in New Brunswick, Canada  and enlisted on the Union side, 15 June 1861 in Maine, as a Private. His unit was Company A,  4th Infantry. After nearly three years, George Musters Out, he deserted! Reading where he fought, I can understand why he deserted, they weren't little battles. Searching several online databases, yield few results and add nothing to my research.
