December Reading Update
Well I made it to my 100 books for the Goodreads Challenge, autually 101 books, with six books for this month and one more to finish.
My book for the month was Shakespeare, The Man who Pays the Rent by Judi Dench. This was an interesting read as Judi talks about the Shakespearean rolls she has played in her long acting career. It would be a good read as a companion to studying the plays for the HSC or VCE.
I mentioned that I was also going to read a Christmas themed book, I read two.
The Christmas Kindness Project by Lily Malone. St in Chalk Hill we have Rosie, a high-flying property manager, returning to the family real estate firm. She is nominated to represent the firm in the Christmas Kindness Project. Add some romance, when she wasn't expecting it and you have a feel good Christmas story.
Promise Me This Christmas by C J Carmichael, is book four in her Bramble House Series. Amy and Chet Hardwick are the owners of Bramble House B&B, but mysterious things are happening and it could cause problems for the Hardwicks. There is also a thread of romance running through the story.
Reading book four had me reaching for books One to three. They were in the Bramble House Chronicles and takes us back to the beginning of the B&B, under Amy's ownership. Feel good reads.
How to Find Love in a Bookshop by Veronica Henry is the story of Emilia Nightingale and the bookshop, Nightingale Books. Started by her father, Emilia takes over after is death and finds the shop in a muddle and she might have to sell. Toss in a cast of characters, including a businessman, who wants the shop, a shy teacher, who loves to cook and the lady of the manor, Sarah and you have delightful story set in a quaint English village.
I had taken the above book away with me and finished it on day one of our trip. As we were in Yass, I ducked into the craft shop and they had second-hand books. This next one is what I bought.
A Stone's Throw Away, by Karley Lane. I enjoy reading Karley's books as they offer a good story as well as some romance. This one was excellent. Pip is an investigative journalist, staying on her uncle's, property, while she writes her book. Seeing the dam empty of water and heaps of rubbish in in, she decides to get it cleaned out. An old ute is in the dam and inside there is a skeleton. Pip is determined NOT to get involved with who the person is or how they got there, she has a deadline to meet! But she can't help herself. Things take an interesting turn with one of the police being a bent cop, but which one?
